motherhood

mommys thoughts

Since having Skylar so many thoughts and feeling go on in my head and heart. First, is my great appreciation for my own moms Kathy and Dianne and all of my friends who are mothers. I never knew how hard it can be and I regret not talking with them, being more supportive, listening to what they were experiencing, and thanking them for all they do and did. Second, I think a lot about this new found life as a mother. One thing I am struggling with right now is how do I know how I am doing. As a mom no there is no one to say if you are doing the job right or wrong, there is no way to know if what you are doing is good, right, ok. You don't have a supervisor, or artistic director, or choreographer, no boss to say do more of this or less of that, or even good job that was great. As a dancer, I am used to hearing right away good job or bad job, and as a teacher the progress of your students is some indication, and their words of feedback give you something to think use as a baseline for how you are doing. If I had just one day when a superior would say you did well today, wow that would help a lot. All I have as a guide is Skylar, but does that mean that her actions alone tell me if I did a good job, yikes. If that is the case, then for all the times I got in trouble sorry mom and dad it was not you. It is all a bit overwhelming and keeps me most of the night. I guess all I can hope for and give to her is what I think is the right thing and learn case by case. And as for feedback I think I will have to work on that first by telling my own moms how great they are and what a good job they did and are still doing, Thanks peek-a boo grandma, and Gwah. With all my heart thanks, hopefully Skylar is as lucky as I have been.

sleepy time

Jared and I were blessed with a baaby that sleeps well. The last few nights Skylar has gone down between 10-11 and sept until 6 with no middle of the night feeding. We hear from other couples this is super at her age. Here she is taking a quick cat nap with her special beary. She loves to kiss Beary and sleep face to face with her.

mommy has to work today

I received a call to teach this morning and though I hate to leave my baby I know it will be good for me to be in the studio for a little bit. This morning I have grandma ka coming over to help out. But still I am going to leave at the last minute and hurry home. Everyone asks us "has she noticed her hands yet" well this morning we saw for the first time how close she is to doing it. It is so cool she is looking at them, seeing them and taking pause and then they go to her mouth, so we are close any second now she will make the connection that they are hers and be fascinated by them.

more to come as the day goes on.........

voodoo

Skylar went to the cranio sacral therapy today or as Daddy calls it voodoo lady. This was her last session until she has a huge growth spurt. I love seeing the changes in her before and after her session. It truly makes me even more of a believer. What is cranio sacral therapy well here is the jist:

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system.

The CranioSacral system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which form the fluid-filled sac around the core of the nervous system - surrounding, nourishing, and protecting the brain and spinal cord.

Like the pulse of the cardiovascular system, the CranioSacral system has a rhythm that can be felt throughout the body.

Using a touch generally no heavier than the weight of a small coin, skilled practitioners can monitor this rhythm at key body areas to pinpoint the source of an obstruction or stress.
Once a source has been determined, they can assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help the body self-correct. This simple action is often all it takes to remove a restriction.
Other times, CST may be combined with other complementary therapies to help restore the body to it's optimum functioning level

New-borns, Infants & Children

Babies and children can also benefit from CranioSacral Therapy.
Because of it's gentleness, the first CranioSacral Therapy treatment could be done within minutes of birth.
By correcting problems in the CranioSacral system early on in life the development of things such as colic, respiratory problems, hyperactivity, dyslexia, seizure disorders, floppy baby syndrome, and possibly cerebral palsy, scoliosis, and orthodontic dental problems, may be avoided later in life.

It's far-reaching effects enable CranioSacral Therapy to be useful for a wide scope of health problems, including:

  • Headache
  • Migraine
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Digestive problems
  • Chronic back pain
  • Depression
  • Strokes
  • Brain and spinal cord injuries
  • Problems of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • M.E.
  • Menstrual problems
  • Menopausal problems
  • Arthritis (osteo & rheumatoid)
  • TMJ dysfunction (jaw problems)
  • Chronic Pain Syndrome
  • Post-operative adhesions
  • Dyslexia & Dyscalclia
  • Allergies
  • Neuralgia
  • Sinusitis
  • Tinnitus
  • Vertigo
  • High & low blood pressure

my first try

In more ways than one this is my first try .... at motherhood, staying at home and not working, and blogging about our new life. My desire to blog comes first from the joy I get in reading my husband's blog The Wah Report, which I look forward to checking everyday, and this deep need to record all that I am experiencing with the birth of our first baby. With Jared's blog I can't wait to get online to read what he has put on for the day, and I know our families do the same. Our family's love being able to read and follow what is happening to him, especially those out of town. For me there has been so much change with the birth of our first child, I wanted an avenue to express it and I can only hope it becomes as popular as Jared's. I want our families and friends to have a place to go to see how Skylar is changing and developing.
So here goes..........stay tuned....
